What You Need to Know Before Starting the RES Course

To become a licensed real estate salesperson (or independent agent), one must either take and pass the Real Estate Salesperson (RES course) exam given by the Council of Estate Agencies (CEA), or present evidence of having obtained a qualification deemed to be equivalent.

When you participate in the RES course, you’ll gain a thorough understanding of both industry concepts and agency practice norms. The goal of the CEA is to maintain an industry standard, and these regulations assist them do so by ensuring that those who seek to work as real estate brokers have the necessary skills and training and uphold the highest ethical standards.

Exactly what is this RES Training?

People who are thinking in working in real estate are required to take the Real Estate Sales Associate (RES) Course. How long it takes to finish the RES course depends on whether or not you choose to take classes during the day or in the evening.

Anyone who completes the course will be eligible to take the RES Exam for two years after that.

According to the Estate Agents Act, in order to become a licensed estate agent, new entrants are needed to attend and complete the course through a CEA-approved training provider.

CEA has good cause for imposing this limitation.

Qualifications for Taking a RES Course

A student must meet all of the following requirements before being admitted to the RES Course:

  • Either a citizen of Singapore or a permanent resident there.
  • You must be at least 21 years old.
  • At least four passes at the Ordinary Level of the General Certificate of Education or its equivalent.
  • It passes muster as healthy and acceptable by the CEA.

Notification of RES Exam Results

Candidates who have taken the RES Exams will be notified by the CEA’s designated Examination Administrator via email roughly four to six weeks after the conclusion of the RES Exams.

There will be four distinct kinds of outcomes detailed in the email issued to applicants:

  • Pass (P)
  • Fail (F)
  • Get an A on Exam 1; get a D on Exam 2 (P1 F2)
  • You’ll FAIL Exam 1 but PASS Exam 2 (F1 P2)
  • Only the third and fourth outcomes, as was just indicated, allow a candidate to repeat an exam in which they previously failed.
  • Within the two-year validity period that begins after your course completion, you must pass the final paper. If you plan on taking the exam more than once, remember this!
  • If you don’t pass, you’ll have to take the Best RES Course Provider again before you can take the exams again.

Results Appeals for the RES Exams

An appeal can be submitted to SEAMEO RELC, the designated Exam Administrator, if you feel you should have passed the exams but did not. The Exam Administrator will review your papers and make a decision as to whether or not you should have passed.

An appeal must be submitted within five business days after the date test results were made public.
